The centre sits at 1,018 metres, where the Travignolo stream meets the Avisio, between the Latemar group to the north and the Lagorai range to the south. About 4,500 people live here. Bolzano is around 50 km away and Trento around 60 km, about an hour’s drive from either. The closest airport is Bolzano; the main international gateways are Verona (about 160 km), Innsbruck (about 170 km) and Venice (about 220 km).

In February 2026 Predazzo was an Olympic venue: its ski jumping stadium hosted all the ski jumping events and the jumping part of the Nordic combined at the Milano Cortina Winter Games. The municipality also includes Bellamonte and Paneveggio, on the road up to the Passo Rolle and the Pale di San Martino, part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old German name for the village is Pardatsch.

In winter a gondola takes you from the village into the Latemar ski area, about 50 km of slopes linked with Pampeago and Obereggen and covered by the Dolomiti Superski pass. In summer Predazzo is a practical base for hiking in the Paneveggio nature park, riding the lifts up the Latemar or cycling the valley bike path.

What to see in Predazzo

You can walk around the centre in an hour. Outside the village there are two directions: the Latemar, by gondola, and the road to Paneveggio and the Passo Rolle.

Main square and old centre

The heart of Predazzo is the square of Santi Filippo e Giacomo, with the neo-Gothic parish church built between 1866 and 1870 and the Geological Museum. In the lanes around it, look at the stone and timber houses with painted façades; the Casa del Mònech has a fresco dated 1742. The oldest church is San Nicolò, in the cemetery, from the late 15th century.

Local tradition says the village grew from twelve farmsteads; the forests are still managed by the Regola Feudale, a community of owners. On 25 July, the feast of the patron saint James, there is a market; in early October the Desmontegada celebrates the cows coming down from the summer pastures; on 11 November bonfires are lit for St Martin.

Geological Museum of the Dolomites

Founded in 1899, this is the oldest museum in the valley, and since 2012 a branch of MUSE, the science museum in Trento. Rocks, fossils, videos and interactive displays explain how the Dolomites rose from an ancient sea. Volcanic and sedimentary rocks crop out side by side around Predazzo, which is why the museum is here.

Tickets cost €5 (reduced €4), free with the Trentino Guest Card or the Fiemme Cembra Guest Card. In summer it opens Tuesday to Sunday, mornings and afternoons, and daily in August. Current hours on the Val di Fiemme tourist board website.

The Olympic ski jumping stadium

The “Giuseppe Dal Ben” ski jumping stadium is at Stalimen, on the edge of the village towards the Val di Fassa. Opened in 1989, it hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1991, 2003 and 2013, and was rebuilt for the Games with longer hills and an inclined lift replacing the old chairlift. It holds up to 5,000 spectators.

At Milano Cortina 2026, nine events were held here between 7 and 19 February: every ski jumping event (men’s and women’s individual normal hill and large hill, mixed team, men’s super team) and the jumping rounds of the three Nordic combined events. The women’s large hill and the men’s super team made their Olympic debut. On 14 February Slovenia’s Domen Prevc won gold on the large hill. In summer the tourist board runs guided tours (in Italian), with a lift ride up to the start towers: check dates on its website.

Guardia di Finanza Alpine School

Since 1920 Predazzo has been home to the Alpine School of the Guardia di Finanza (Italy’s financial police), one of the oldest military mountain schools. In 2026 it served as the Val di Fiemme Olympic Village, with 691 beds. Its history museum on Via Fiamme Gialle covers five rooms, with captions also in Braille.

Latemar, Passo Feudo and the Dos Capèl Geotrail

From Stalimen the gondola rises to Gardonè (1,650 m) and a chairlift continues to Passo Feudo (2,200 m), beneath the Latemar spires. This is the start of the Dos Capèl Geotrail, described as Italy’s first geological trail: a 5.4 km loop, about 2 hours and 262 m of ascent, with 19 stops on the rocks and fossils of a 250-million-year-old sea. Free, very scenic and with almost no shade.

Paneveggio, the violin forest

On the way to the Passo Rolle you drive through the Paneveggio forest, one of Italy’s best-known spruce forests. It is called the violin forest: luthiers choose its resonance wood, and tradition has it that Stradivari sourced his here. It is part of the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Nature Park, set up in 1967.

At the Paneveggio visitor centre, by the road, the “Suona Foresta” exhibition lets you hear the forest. A few minutes’ walk away, the deer enclosure has viewing platforms; the Marciò trail, open all year, makes a loop of about an hour through the trees. Opening hours on the nature park website.

Forte Buso lake and the forts

A little higher up, the Travignolo is dammed to form Lago di Forte Buso. It takes its name from Forte Buso, one of the Austro-Hungarian First World War forts on the Rolle road; Forte Dossaccio is in the same area. You can drive there and walk along the shore.

Passo Rolle and the Pale di San Martino

The Passo Rolle (1,984 m) links the Val di Fiemme with Primiero, about 20 km from Predazzo. All of them are on the Val di Fiemme–Obereggen pass, over 110 km of slopes in five areas, which is part of Dolomiti Superski (1,200 km).

The Latemar from Predazzo

Latemar Dolomites has about 50 km of slopes and 18 lifts, up to 2,400 m, with three access points: Predazzo, Pampeago and Obereggen in South Tyrol. Two thirds of the runs are red: 9 km blue, 33 km red, 7 km black. The longest run is the Tresca (3.1 km), the steepest the Pala di Santa.

In Predazzo you start at Stalimen, next to the ski jump, where there is a large car park. The gondola climbs from 1,050 to 1,650 m to Gardonè, with a ski school area; the chairlift continues to Passo Feudo (2,200 m). From there, ski down the Cinque Nazioni (2.6 km) or head across to Pampeago and Obereggen. In 2026/27 the Predazzo lifts are scheduled to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, snow permitting. Near the end you can still see trees felled by Storm Vaia in 2018.

Dragon Forest and Alpine Coaster

At the Gardonè top station (1,650 m) the Dragon Forest is a 1.4 km loop on a wide forest road with games along the way, suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. Next to it, the Alpine Coaster is a 980 m mountain coaster through the woods at up to 40 km/h; children aged 9 to 14 ride with an adult.

Rifugio Torre di Pisa

From Passo Feudo, path 516 climbs to the Rifugio Torre di Pisa (2,671 m), named after a leaning rock pinnacle beside it. Around 500 m of ascent on a steep but well-made path: allow half a day there and back. The hut opens in summer.

Colbricon lakes, Baita Segantini and Val Venegia

Two of the park’s easiest walks start at the Passo Rolle. Downhill towards Cavalese it is family-friendly, and in summer a bike bus takes you back up. Mountain bikers have the Latemar forest roads and the climb to the Passo Rolle (about 20 km, 4.6% average).
